Art-making combined with healing has brought forth enormous personal energy. Becoming a second-degree Reiki healer taught me about hands-on healing. After becoming proficient in conventional painting mediums, through a variety of educational sources, I became interested in luminosity, layers, and the atmospheric conditions creating the wavering vibrant color the impressionists saw. I was fortunate to travel to regions and plein air paint where many artists have painted before me. Experimentation with encaustic and other mediums that helped me create luminous layers became my focus. After painting land and waterscapes for many years I realized that I could put forth healing energy towards the earth and our oceans. Healing can occur through painting, meditation, education, sharing the message through the image itself, and explanation of the intent.
Pamela Dorris DeJong’s work is described as: ”not stopping merely at transforming materials but also explores the healing properties in physical, psychological and relational concepts through the process of art-making…The intricately layered, powerful colors and engaging texture of this work communicates on many levels.” Artscope Magazine. Using interpretive expression in mixed media, Pamela’s recent work has been an exploration of the mechanisms of healing, environmental issues, as well as recording this time on earth, responding and sharing her interpretation so the viewer can understand a different point of view, or see beauty in things they might not otherwise notice.
